by HIPA Jeremy 19 Sep 2022 0 Comments

Have you ever had the pull cord problem with your STIHL MS 250 chainsaw? Such as the pull cord breaks out. Here is a step-by-step instruction on how to replace the pull cord in your chainsaw.

Preparation

You need a t27 Torx screwdriver, a pair of needle nose pliers and a piece of new pull cord.

How To

Step 1: Separate the recoil from the chainsaw. You need to remove the Torx screws that holding the recoil on the chainsaw. When you remove the screws, you may find there are some small metal insert coming out with the screws. That’s alright, just make sure you do not lose this part.
Step 2: Remove the rope from the pulley. You can use the pliers to grab the rope knot in the pulley and remove it from inside. If you have no idea how long the new rope you will use, you can measure the old rope with new one. It is better to cut out a bit longer of a rope and melt both of the ends to prevent the ends of the rope from fraying, keeping it all intact.
Step 3: Insert the rope respectively in the pulley and the pull handle and make a knot at both of the ends.
Step 4: Make the rope get back into the recoil assembly. Turn the assembly clockwise and you will feel a bit of resistance, because the spring is actually tensioned and then let it go back with the rope.
Step 5: Before you reinstall the recoil start, you’d better clean the parts and lube the rotor.
