Primer Bulb Replacement On A Lawn Mower Engine

by Jeremy HIPA 09 Dec 2022 0 Comments

This blog is a step-by-step instruction for replacing the primer bulb on a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine. The most common reasons for replacing the primer bulb is when the engine is leaking fuel.

Replacement

Before you begin the replacement, you need to make sure the engine has cooled and remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting. You should perform this procedure with no fuel in the tank.
Step 1: You can start by removing the motor cover.
Step 2: Remove the air filter cover along with the air filter.
Step 3: With the cover removed, you have access to the screws securing the primer base. The primer bulb is secured to the base with a plastic clip. You can use a couple of screwdrivers to release the clip.
With the old primer bulb removed, you are now ready to install the new one.
Step 4: Remove the old clip from the old primer bulb and install it onto the new bulb. Line the ears with the openings on either side of the base and use a screwdriver to snap them into place.
Step 5: Now you can reinstall the base and connect the throttle linkage. Make sure that the breather tube should be realigned to the back of the base and align the base with the carburetor. Secure it with the screws. Then you can reinstall the air filter and the motor cover.

With the repair completed reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug, refill the fuel tank and your lawn mower should be ready for use.
