4 Reasons Why Your Snow Blower Won’t Start

by Hipa Store 26 Oct 2022 0 Comments

If your snow blower won’t start, this blog provides information on how to troubleshoot your snow blower and the most likely defective parts associate with the problems.

Reasons for not start

Here are the top four most probable causes.

1.Defective spark plug
Due to carbon buildup and a weakened electrode, the spark plug will degrade over time, which can prevent the engine from starting. You should inspect the spark plug for damage or wear, you can also use an ignition tester to help determine if the spark plug is defective. As a general guideline, you need to replace the spark plug with a new one once a year.

2.Restricted carburetor
Over time, certain ingredients in the fuel used to run the snowblower can evaporate, leaving behind a thicker stickier substance and this substance can create a restriction in the carburetor. You can try cleaning the carburetor with carburetor cleaner to eliminate the clog. If cleaning is not effective, you can often purchase a carburetor rebuild kit to replace some of the components or install a new carburetor altogether.

3.Broken flywheel key
The flywheel key is a small metal piece which fits into the crankshaft and engages with the flywheel. The engine may suddenly stop if the snowblower hits a hard object and the flywheel key will break in half to prevent damage to the engine. If this happens, you will need to replace the broken flywheel key with a new one before the engine can be restarted.

4.Malfunction ignition coil
The ignition coil sends voltage to the spark plug while the engine is running. If the ignition coil is malfunctioning, the engine may not start, you should first confirm that the spark plug is working properly, if it is, you can use the ignition tester to determine if the ignition coil has failed and will need to be replaced.
