Spark Plug Replacement On A Small Engine
This blog is a step-by-step instruction for replacing the spark plug on a Briggs & Stratton small engine. The most common reasons for replacing the spark plug is when the small engine won’t start.
Replacement
Before you begin the replacement, you need to make sure the engine has cooled and remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
Step 1: Use a 5/8 inch deep well socket or a spark plug wrench to help loosen the old spark plug, then unthread it.
Step 2: Before you install the new spark plug, you need to confirm that the spark gap is at manufacturer’s specifications.
Step 3: Now thread the new spark plug into the cylinder head. You need to be careful not to strip the threads by over tightening.
With the repair completed, reattach the wire in boot to the spark plug and your engine should be ready for use.
