Wheel Drive Belt Replacement On A Snow Blower

by Jeremy HIPA 21 Dec 2022 0 Comments

This blog is a step-by-step instruction for replacing the wheel drive belt on a Cub Cadet snowblower. The most common reasons for replacing the wheel drive belt is when the snow blower wheel won’t turn or the snowblower auger won’t turn.

Replacement

Before you begin the replacement, you need to make sure the engine has cooled and remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting. We recommend performing this procedure with little or no fuel in the tank.
Step 1: Use a 3/8 inch socket to remove the bolt securing the belt cover and pull the cover off. Release the tension spring.
Step 2: Now pull the idler pulley backe to detach the wheel drive belt if still intact. Carefully tip the snowblower forward so it rests on the auger housing.
Step 3: Use the 3/8 inch socket to remove the mounting bolts securing the frame cover and pull the cover off if still intact. Detach the old belt from the drive plate, slide it under the friction disk and pull it free of the frame.
Step 4: Detach the auger belt to fully remove the old wheel drive belt. And you are now ready to install the new wheel drive belt.
Step 5: Slide the new belt over the pulleys and under the tension spring then feed the belt between the frame and the drive plate. Now slide the belt under the friction disc and position it around the drive plate.
Step 5: Realign the frame cover and replace the mounting bolts to srcure. Return the snowblower to its upright position. Align the new belt on the drive and idler police. Reposition the auger belt, reset the tension spring on the bolt and replace the belt cover. Rethread the bolts and tighten.

With the repair completed, reattach the spark plug and boot to the spark plug, and refill the fuel tank. Your snow blower now should be ready for use.
